“No flicker or delay” with Lutron Vive wireless lighting control

November 9, 2016 - Retrofitting an older building? Lutron’s Vive wireless lighting control bats down the requirement for extensive new wiring by using a hub for central control and monitoring. In fact, the company says you can install a Vive switch and sensor in 15 mins.

In addition to the 120-277V hub, the system also features an in-wall control, wireless sensor, load controller and remote control.

Using Vive Vue software on any compatible smart device you can wirelessly connect system controls and program system settings—no ladder required, Lutron claims, as its patent pending RF signal strength detection automatically finds nearby devices.

The system uses Lutron’s Clear Connect wireless technology, which operates in an uncongested radio frequency band. The result is “reliable communication and dimming performance with no flicker or delay and other devices will not interfere with the Lutron lighting control system”. It also boasts XCT sensing (with algorithms that distinguish between background noise and actual motion, Lutron explains) and Hi-Lume dimming technologies.

Additionally, Vive integrates via BACnet with other building/energy management, HVAC, IT and audio-visual systems.
