June 21, 2012 - The governments of Canada and the United States released the United States-Canada Clean Energy Dialogue Action Plan II today, which outlines the next phase of activities the two countries will jointly undertake to advance clean energy technologies.
Through the Clean Energy Dialogue Action Plan II, the two countries say they will place a greater emphasis on collaborating and sharing best practices to improve energy efficiency.

The Clean Energy R&D working group aims to facilitate greater cross-border R&D collaboration by connecting Canadian and U.S. experts and institutions in priority areas for the Clean Energy Dialogue, which includes energy efficiency for homes and buildings.

Among the working group’s priorities, Canada and the States will continue to cooperate on enhancements to the Energy Star criteria and programs through the development of new and revised specifications for product categories and residential buildings. Also, they are jointly developing a Demand Response Quick Assessment Tool for utilities, aggregators and building owners to evaluate the demand-response potential of buildings, “which will facilitate the establishment of buildings as integral components of the smart grid”.
