CEM, a “high-level international forum that promotes policies and programs to advance clean energy” will be honouring three top companies with the Award of Excellence in Energy Management next month at its annual meeting in California and New Gold Inc. out of Kamloops, B.C. is among them. An additional 32 companies (three of them from Canada) will be bestowed with Energy Management Insight Awards for helping to build global insight on the benefits of energy management systems in industrial and commercial facilities.

To qualify for these awards, one or more industrial or commercial facilities within each company had to have set up an energy management system and certified it to the global ISO 50001 standard, summarized the process and resulting benefits, and submitted a written case study. An independent panel of international experts selected the winners.

Participating companies reported annual energy cost savings of up to $13.5 million US, CEM said.

“Energy management systems that meet the global ISO 50001 standard are delivering energy, economic, and sustainability benefits to businesses, communities, and the world,” said Graziella Siciliano, coordinator of the Energy Management Working Group at the Clean Energy Ministerial. “We salute all of the industrial and commercial facilities that entered this competition. Collectively, they are building a resource to help facilities of all types and sizes understand this cost-effective approach to improve energy performance and reduce carbon emissions.”
