360 Energy to award Region of Peel Certification in Energy Excellence

Over the past three years, in keeping with their mandate, Peel has become a leading organization in energy management, always striving to improve wherever possible. They have an Energy Management team who work to ensure everything possible is being done in the areas of conservation and sustainability.

David Arkell, President and CEO of 360 Energy Inc. noted, “The Certification in Energy Excellence is not something easily attained and is only suited for those organizations that can prove their energy leadership over a three-year period requiring proper attention to the management of energy, evidence of progressive energy improvement and a commitment to make further progress. We are extremely pleased with the gold certification that the Region will receive. It continues to demonstrate the leadership, social responsibility and environmental commitment Peel has to its citizens, the province, and to the country.”

Steve Hall, Director, Real Property Asset Management at the Region of Peel stated, “The Certification in Energy Excellence program allows Peel Region to celebrate key milestones in its energy management program. For many years, the Region has consistently demonstrated its commitment to making informed decisions about how energy is purchased, consumed and managed; the Certification in Energy Excellence now allows us to credibly demonstrate that we have a common understanding and approach to energy management practices that are among the best in the world. This certification goes beyond representing our progress in energy reductions, but will also help strategically outline what Peel Region is planning to do over time to ensure these reductions continue."

There are three distinct levels of certification; silver, gold, and platinum. An organization is assessed based on four areas of energy management activity. These include the organization’s management commitment to energy, energy procurement practices, investment in energy efficiency, and on-going energy performance improvements. On April 20 and 21 the Region will host its fifth annual conference on energy management and environmental sustainability, Energy Matters 2009, in Mississauga. This unique conference brings together North America and Europe’s most influential leaders to share ideas about reducing growing energy costs on a company’s bottom line. On the first day of the conference the certification will be awarded to Peel by a representative from the Ontario Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure.
