BC Hydro approves energy management software for continuous optimization program

BC Hydro has approved Schneider Electric Canada as a real-time energy management (RTEM) software vendor for commercial organizations participating in the utility’s continuous optimization program, which provides assistance for improving efficiency in large buildings.

“This program provides funding for an approved consultant to work with an approved provider to install specialized energy management information software in a building and use it as part of the recommissioning process,” explains Paul Seo, senior program manager for BC Hydro, which offers the program jointly with another utility, FortisBC.

Under the new agreement, Schneider will offer its cloud-enabled EcoStruxure Building Advisor managed service to eligible commercial customers. Combining analytics, reports and remote troubleshooting, the software’s insights reportedly reduce energy costs for building managers by an average of 20%.

“To work effectively, facility managers need to break free from traditional and reactive building operations,” says Adrian Thomas, vice-president (VP) of buildings for Schneider. “Our new work with BC Hydro will provide access to the latest technologies for customers who have committed to energy management.”
