Flown by a licensed pilot, the drone is able to do an audit of a company’s existing lighting structures, providing details for all parties involved in the project, says the company.

According to Outdoor’s Greg Jones, he got the idea to employ drone technology to do an inventory of a company’s outdoor lighting fixtures after experiencing issues trying to set up in-person audits with contractors bidding on the installation, and local utility reps responsible for verifying the audit on behalf of the client’s SaveOnEnergy incentive.

With a drone, the potential customer doesn’t have to be present, explains Outdoor Lumination. Contractors, meantime, get a detailed view of the scope-of-work, as well as the surrounding work environment; the local utility rep can confirm the lighting audit without ever leaving the office.
