Energy experts at SCC World Accreditation Day 2014
May 26, 2014 - The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) says leading experts in the field of energy provision, accreditation and certification are confirmed to speak at its World Accreditation Day 2014 celebration—a no-cost, networking breakfast being held June 9 at the Ottawa Convention Centre.

The theme of this year’s global event is “Accreditation: Delivering confidence in the provision of energy”. Come discover the importance of accreditation and certification procedures, standards, regulations and testing, says SCC, and how they help ensure the safety of products and services, “and can strengthen your competitive global edge”.
The event will appeal to anyone interested in energy provision, energy efficiency and energy performance. This includes conformity assessment bodies, manufacturers, standards developers, SME and large enterprises, government regulators, consumers and academics, as well as anyone who is interested in how standards and accreditation can help to improve the safety of Canadians and increase competitiveness.
Carol Buckley, the director general of the Office of Energy Efficiency (OEE), Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), will talk about the value of becoming certified to ISO 50001. Through NRCan’s OEE, the Government of Canada supports Responsible Energy Use through systematic energy management.
NRCan is encouraging industrial companies to implement this internationally recognized standard with advice, guidance documents and other tools. Buckley will explain those tools, as well as the importance of making cost-saving investments to enhance productivity and competitiveness in today’s global markets.
Paul W. Birkeland, Global Strategic Energy, recently launched an accreditation program for organizations looking to implement this standard, to increase their energy efficiency, reduce costs and improve energy performance—and for certification bodies wanting to help their customers do so.
For those who are unable to attend in person, the event will also be available via live webcast in both English and French.
