ERA Energy Savings for Business increases incentive limit; shares key dates

October 6, 2021  By  Anthony Capkun

October 6, 2021 – The Energy Savings for Business team at Emissions Reduction Alberta just announced the incentive limit for parent companies has been increased from $500,000 to $1 million.

This means companies will have even more opportunity to invest in the energy-saving technologies for which they have already applied, or to consider different technology incentives offered by ESB.

In other news, the Energy Savings for Business Program (i.e. the project completion deadline) has been extended until 2023, which means you or your clients now have more time to take advantage of ESB energy-saving incentives.

The program will now accept all post-project applications until March 31, 2023. All projects that have received pre-approval must be constructed and have submitted their post-project application by that date.

The ESB wants you to note these other important dates:

• March 31, 2022 – 12-month notice: Latest pre-approval date for CHP (combined heat & power), ground-source heat pump, larger HVAC projects, and waste energy recovery (based on the Organic Rankine Cycle) to access the maximum 12-month project completion timeline.

For all projects that will require the full 12 months to complete, you should have your pre-approval application approved by this date.

• September 30, 2022 – 6-month notice: Latest pre-approval date for projects to access 6-month project completion timeline.

For all projects that will require six months to complete, you should have your pre-approval application approved by this date.

• March 31, 2023 – post-project application submission deadline. All post-project applications for incentives and required documentation must be submitted by this date.

You can still submit pre-approval applications after the 12-month and 6-month deadlines, says the ESB team, although it will impact the amount of time you have left to construct and submit your Post-Project Application.

As a reminder, all projects receive a default deadline of six months. Extension requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis for CHP, ground-source heat pump, waste energy recovery (based on the Organic Rankine Cycle) and larger HVAC projects that may need more time to complete.

Should you require an extension to complete your project, you must submit a Change Request to ERA for approval.

The Energy Savings for Business Program is still first-come, first-served until funding is fully allocated. To increase your chances of success in reserving funds, you are encouraged you to submit your applications as soon as possible.
