Is this you? BC Hydro is looking for energy managers

October 6, 2021 – BC Hydro is building a list of potential Energy Managers—or those interested in becoming one—to provide its customers when they are looking to hire for the first time or fill a vacancy.

These opportunities are predominately in the forestry, mining, manufacturing and transportation sectors. Jobs are located across the province, including Prince George, Quesnel, Vancouver Island, Lower Mainland, and can be in remote areas.

Did you know? BC Hydro has been providing funding for their largest customers to hire Industrial Energy Managers for nearly two decades.

An Energy Manager’s mission is to embed strategic energy management into their organization’s business practices, saving money by reducing operating and maintenance costs along the way. The program has come a long way since its relaunch in 2009, says BC Hydro, with over 50 customers and 70 Energy Managers in place since then.

What are the typical requirements for an Energy Manager?

Every organization is different. While BC Hydro helps fund the position, the Energy Manager is not an employee of BC Hydro. It’s up to that particular organization to make the hiring decision based on the factors most important to them.

However, BC Hydro has created the following as a guideline for its customers to make a hiring decision:

• Registered Professional Engineer or Registered Engineering Technologist
• Minimum of 5 years’ work experience in industrial process, and in the operation, maintenance and management of electrical and lighting systems or mechanical systems.
• Familiarity and knowledge of energy-efficient technologies.
• Demonstrated interest and enthusiasm related to energy efficiency.
• Excellent verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, and presentation skills
• Experience and ability in writing detailed reports.
