LED designed for HID retrofits in low-clearance and hazardous locations

December 10, 2018 – Emerson Automation Solutions has launched the Appleton Contender LED to help save energy by up to 65% and reduce maintenance costs in lighting retrofits for challenging low-clearance areas, such as walkways, stairwells and tunnels, in hazardous locations.

The low-profile enclosed and gasketed LED is designed specifically for retrofit applications. It can be directly mounted to the hood of a high-intensity discharge (HID) hazardous location luminaire—including those manufactured by Emerson’s competitors—without requiring an adapter.

With illumination rated for an ambient operating temperature range from -40 to 65 C, the Contender is intended for oil and gas facilities, chemical processing plants and other hazardous sites in very cold or hot climates. It features an epoxy powdercoat finish for corrosion resistance, a watertight hub with an Ingress Protection (IP) rating of 68 and a 6-KV surge suppression circuit to protect against damaging transients.

The Contender is certified under the CE Code for hazardous locations of various ratings. For full details, click here.
