June 25, 2015 - NB Power says it is encouraging customers to save energy through a new program that will help homeowners make their homes more energy efficient.

The Home Insulation Energy Savings Program provides targeted advice and financial incentives for insulation and air-sealing upgrades. It is the latest energy efficiency program offering from NB Power, which said it has provided customers with approximately $2.3 million in incentives for energy efficient products and appliances since October 2013.

“We want to help customers stop paying for electricity they don’t need. We are proud to deliver the home insulation savings program, because we know that improving the envelope of your home is the best way to make it energy efficient,” said Gaëtan Thomas, president and CEO of NB Power. “Insulation and air sealing are cost-effective upgrades which can significantly reduce your home’s heating and cooling costs.”

To begin the program, homeowners can register for a home evaluation at www.nbpower.com/homeinsulation or by calling 1-800-663-6272. The evaluation costs $210 and will determine the current levels of insulation and air leakage in the home prior to beginning upgrades.

The homeowner then has nine months to carry out the upgrades and then have a second, no-cost evaluation to measure the reduction in air leakage, determine the financial incentive amount and estimate potential energy savings.

Incentives are based on the level of insulation added (R value) and the size of the area insulated. They differ if a homeowner hires a contractor or does the work him or herself.
