New Philips Lighting Concept Centre set up as a series of vignettes
June 29, 2017 - After about a year of construction, the Philips Lighting Concept Centre (LCC) in Markham, Ont., is officially open. Energy-Manager.ca was there for the ribbon-cutting ceremony, which was carried out by Frank Scarpitti, Mayor of Markham, Mike Gentile, president & CEO of Philips Lighting Canada, and Ellen Godson, senior manager for Philips Lighting University.

Left to right: Ellen Godson The LCC is an interactive facility where visitors can experience a variety of light methods and controls, in addition to real-world applications of Philips’ lighting technologies. Set up as a series of vignettes, visitors can learn more about lighting applications for offices and commercial applications, city and urban lighting, architectural, residential and retail spaces.
“The [LCC] will always be changing as we develop new products and applications for lighting,” said Gentile. “Globally, we invest approximately 5% of sales revenue in R&D to ensure we remain at the forefront of lighting technological developments.”

Philips has operated the Lighting Concept Centre in a downtown Toronto location since 1987, says the company, adding the new space in Markham allows for larger tours and a dedicated education area for seminars and other programs.
