March 29, 2019 – Alderon Iron Ore has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to lease or purchase energy management equipment from Schneider Electric Canada for use at the Kami Mine in the Labrador Trough.

Alderon plans to implement Schneider’s EcoStruxure connected industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) technology throughout the digitally integrated mine, including plant process performance, power and maintenance advisor systems, to help optimize energy use and operating costs for both mining and processing operations. Once definitive documentation has been completed, the companies will have an opportunity to map out the operation co-operatively.

"We have chosen Schneider because of their array of product and service offerings in power and energy management and process control," says Tayfun Eldem, Alderon's president and CEO. "With this partnership, we could reduce capital spending and equipment cost targets from its September 2018 updated feasibility study and accelerate the project schedule."

"We are pleased to be a part of the Kami project and look forward to helping Alderon create an advanced, efficient and fully digital mine," says David Willick, Schneider vice-president (VP) and mining, minerals and metals segment leader for North America.
