F12.net upgrades UPSs for Markham data centre

February 26, 2019 – Managed information technology (IT) service provider F12.net recently built a new data centre in Markham, Ont., deploying on-premise power consumption effectiveness monitoring to ensure business continuity.

Specifically, the company adopted Schneider Electric Canada’s EcoStruxure platform and installed lithium-ion uninterruptible power supplies (UPSs) for extended life cycles—up to three times the expected span of valve-regulated lead-acid (VRLA) batteries—and to defer future capital expenditures.

In addition to reducing total cost of ownership (TCO) by 30 to 50%, the new UPSs take up less space, weigh less and are modular in design, allowing capacity to be scaled up further as needed, without building out more space in the facility.

Energy management is important to the business as it competes in the cloud computing and co-location market, where the reliable delivery of power is fundamental to customer service.

“The facility marks the next step in our journey to advance the technology posture of small and medium businesses across Canada, by offering fully managed, geo-redundant data centres,” explains Calvin Engen, F12’s director of IT.
