Mississauga wins multiple honours for energy management
February 4, 2019 – The city of Mississauga, Ont., received multiple awards last week in recognition of its energy management efforts.

Paraschiv was honoured for implementing an operations optimization program to support energy efficiency in city-owned buildings, using real-time metering and analytics. Since the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) kicked off its Race to Reduce campaign in May 2017, she has saved Mississauga’s facilities nearly 4 GWh of electricity and $343,000 in annual costs.
“With more than 25 years of experience in the field, Daniela has a deep understanding of and continues to make important contributions to the city’s energy performance,” said Gregg. “She was up against some stiff competition for this award and her achievements are indicative of the great work happening in the municipal sector for energy management.”

Meanwhile, Ontario’s electric and gas companies presented the Energy in Action Innovation Award for Best Municipality/University/School/Hospital Customer (1 MW+) within the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA) to Mississauga in recognition of numerous energy-efficiency projects, including the aforementioned heat recovery systems, solar water heating systems at outdoor pools, LED retrofits for six buildings and cold water resurfacing systems.
Finally, the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) presented the Living City Energy Efficiency Gold Award for City Hall to Mississauga’s Civic Centre for the third consecutive year. The building’s operation systems are continually monitored and, accordingly, adjustments are made to controls and schedules for its heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) units and lighting, to save energy.
