Yukon’s Commercial Energy Incentive Program helps businesses
September 10, 2015 - The Yukon government says its new Commercial Energy Incentive Program is proving to be successful in encouraging local businesses to improve efficient energy use.

The program offers incentives for improving energy use in multi-family dwellings and commercial buildings through building retrofits or lighting system upgrades.
In the last three months, six local organizations have initiated retrofits or lighting upgrades to their buildings. These include Northern Vision Development who is upgrading lighting in three of its Whitehorse hotels.
“The Commercial Energy Incentive Program was a key factor in our decision to convert our hotel properties in Yukon to LED lighting systems,” Northern Vision Development CEO Rich Thompson said. “This is good for business and good for all Yukoners as it reduces overall energy use and costs in the territory.”
To date, the lighting systems of 10 commercial buildings including hotels, a curling rink and a vehicle service centre have been upgraded to LED lamps and fixtures. These upgrades represent an approximate annual energy savings of 1,188,000 kWh and an annual cost savings of $142,500, the Yukon government stated.
