Ontario moving forward on extending Northern Industrial Electricity Rate program

May 10, 2013 - Ontario’s premier, Kathleen Wynne, was in Parry Sound today highlighting several strategies that, she says, will create jobs, grow Northern economies and “help people in their everyday lives”. Of particular interest is the Northern Industrial Electricity Rate (NIER) program.

Wynne said the government is moving forward on the planned extension of the NIER program, which helps the largest industrial electricity consumers in Northern Ontario with their electricity costs so they can stay competitive. The government is investing $360 million over three years into the program.
