In Ontario, the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO)—a not-for-profit entity established by the Government of Ontario to manage the province’s power system so that citizens receive power when and where they need it—is implementing some precautionary measures associated with the COVID-19 virus to ensure the reliable operation of the Ontario electricity grid.

As of March 11, all stakeholder engagement meetings, including regional electricity forums, the stakeholder advisory committee, the technical panel and other stakeholder engagement initiatives will be conducted only through conference call or webinar. This move provides a platform for ongoing stakeholder feedback for the foreseeable future while minimizing risks for IESO employees and stakeholders.

The IESO has also introduced controls for visitors to its three locations, requiring visitors who have traveled to an affected zone or are exhibiting symptoms to refrain from visiting the facilities.
