Ottawa supporting new energy advisors to bolster Canada Greener Homes Grant

April 6, 2022  By  Anthony Capkun

April 6, 2022 – Ottawa announced a total investment of over $4.2 million for eight organizations to help them recruit, train and mentor up to 690 new energy advisors across the country, and upskill up to 110 existing advisors.

Today’s spending announcement is part of a $10-million call for proposals to train up to an additional 2000 energy advisors.

“Investing in more energy advisors will not only ensure the successful delivery of the Canada Greener Homes Grant, but will also create sustainable, high-quality jobs in communities across the country,” said Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Natural Resources. “Retrofitting homes and buildings is essential work to help Canadians save on energy bills, lower emissions and build a net zero economy by 2050.”

Those organizations include:

SaskPower, Regina ($1.15 million).
• Confederation College of Applied Arts & Technology, Thunder Bay, Ont. ($681,000).
• NorQuest College in Edmonton ($675,000).
• Government of Yukon, Whitehorse ($624,000).
• Canadian Institute for Energy Training, Toronto ($359,000).
• Ecotrust Canada, Prince Rupert, B.C. ($300,000).
• EnviroCentre, Ottawa ($227,000).
• Ecofitt Corporation, Newfoundland & Labrador ($190,000).

The spending will support the delivery of energy advisor training programs to prepare candidates to pass the exams required to become energy advisors. They will also provide practical hands-on training and mentorship opportunities to candidates and newly registered energy advisors.

Energy advisors are pivotal to the Canada Greener Homes Grant, which relies on their pre- and post-retrofit EnerGuide home energy evaluations.
