Quebec homeowners earn LEED v4 Platinum home certification
February 22, 2018 — Quebec homeowners Pierre Chevrier and Suzanne Rhéaume have earned Canada’s second Platinum certification under LEED v4 BD+C: Homes for their home, L’Heure Bleue.

L'Heure Bleue Located in Charlevoix, Que., L’Heure Bleue is a 2350-sf farmhouse retrofit. Chevrier and Rhéaume have lived in their new home for seven months and say they have seen lower operational costs for hydro and water consumption. Their hydro bill is less than $60/month.
Energy consumption is fully monitored, and the home incorporates components from the WaterSense and Energy Star programs.
Some of the project’s other features include:
• Insulated and airtight building envelope
• Energy Star-qualified and EnerGuide-rated appliances
• LED and natural lighting
“The L’Heure Bleue project is an excellent example of why LEED works for homeowners. It provides a solid template and set of guidelines for going green, and understands the value and importance of the unique needs that homeowners have,” said Mark Hutchinson, vice president, Green Building Programs at the Canada Green Building Council. “While other rating systems focus on one or two specific aspects of sustainability, LEED looks at a home from all angles — allowing not just for energy and water savings, but a healthy and fresh indoor environment that will leave a lasting impact.”
