July 2, 2020 – Quectel, Phoenix Contact and Ericsson claim they have developed and deployed the first industrial 5G router for local industrial applications in a private 5G network.

With the help of a newly developed 5G router, industrial applications (e.g. machines, controls and other equipment) can now be connected to a private 5G network; a distinct advantage to previous mobile radio solutions, says Quectel, in which one has to accept performance losses when the radio spectrum is heavily occupied.

To achieve the private 5G network, Phoenix Contact supplied WLAN, Bluetooth and mobile radio routers; Quectel supplied cellular and GNSS modules; and Ericsson supported product development as a network supplier and a player in 5G technology development.
