BC Hydro offering Energy Star appliance rebates for Fall 2016
October 26, 2016 - BC Hydro says British Columbians looking to maximize their electricity savings this winter and make smart energy choices, can save hundreds of dollars on some of the most energy-efficient appliances.
Until the end of November, BC Hydro and various municipalities are offering rebates up to $100 each on select Energy Star washing machines that use about 25% less electricity than standard models.
Customers can also get up to $100 rebates on select energy-efficient clothes dryers and refrigerators. Energy Star clothes dryers use 20% less energy than standard models and Enegy Star refrigerators can cut electricity use by 10%, according to BC Hydro.
Some retailers and manufacturers are matching the BC Hydro rebate, bringing the potential savings up to $300. All Home Depot locations are doubling rebates on qualifying appliances and select Best Buy locations are also offering double rebates on qualifying LG and Samsung appliances.
To further save on energy, especially as the colder months approach, the utility recommends:
• Washing laundry in cold water to help reduce your energy consumption by more than half,
• Hanging your laundry to dry instead of using your dryer, and
• Running an efficient refrigerator set between 1°C and 4°C.
Appliances can account for up to 20% of a household's electricity use, depending on whether your home is electrically heated, BC Hydro added.
