Union Gas making home builders “future ready” with Optimum program

October 3, 2013 - Union Gas launched a program designed to move residential home builders’ energy-efficiency practices 20% ahead of provincial standards, says the utility, helping them to be “future-ready” in advance of the next Ontario Building Code change in 2017.

Originally offered as a pilot to 50 of the largest residential home builders in the Union Gas service area, the revised Optimum Home Program is now being extended to all residential home builders in the company’s area.

“Through the Optimum Home Program, builders have access to the knowledge, tools and support which will assist them in their journey to produce some of the most efficient homes on the market,” said Dave Simpson, vice-president of in-franchise sales & marketing and customer care at Union Gas.

The program equips builders with technical and marketing training from building science experts with a background in energy efficiency and sustainable housing. The goal is to help builders design, build and market high-performance homes exceeding the current Ontario Building Code efficiency standards, says Union.

“In turn, home buyers will benefit from high-performance homes that are more healthy, durable and comfortable to live in while significantly cutting energy bills,” added Simpson.
