According to Oak Ridge National Laboratory, even modern high-efficiency condensing furnaces produce significant amounts of corrosive acidic condensation and unhealthy levels of nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and methane. But maybe for not much longer, as ORNL scientists believe they have developed an “affordable add-on technology” that removes more than 99.9% of acidic gases and other emissions.

In the pursuit of achieving its net-zero targets, Ottawa will compel all of its major suppliers to disclose their GHG emissions and set reduction targets. Suppliers can fulfil this requirement by participating in Canada’s Net-Zero Challenge or another approved, internationally recognized and functionally equivalent standard or initiative. There is an additional requirement to report and reduce the embodied carbon footprint of all new major government construction projects.
