Rabba Fine Foods, a Greater Toronto Area grocery store chain, is installing solar panels on the roofs of its two distribution centres with the aim of reducing its dependence on the grid while lowering operating costs and carbon emissions. The grocer has partnered with Green Integrations, which will design, engineer, and build the systems solar PV systems, with an expected operation date of November 2023.

Having achieved top positioning for stationary batteries in its home market of China, including supplying the largest standalone ESS plant in the country, manufacturer Hithium entered North America with a view to supporting the region’s clean energy boom. As the market builds out, energy storage is essential to stabilising renewable power supply.
Located in Ningxia, China’s biggest standalone energy storage power station has a capacity of 400MWh and output of 1.33 billion kWh per year and features Hithium’s immersion liquid-cooling technology. Further Hithium product innovations reduced the floor area for this power station by 35%, thus significantly lowering LCOS.

Volvo Car Canada Ltd. and automotive group Dilawri announced the opening of North America’s first Volvo Retail Sustainable Experience (VRSE) facility at 338-10700 Cambie Road in Richmond, B.C. The overall goal of the VRSE approach is to make it as easy as possible to choose to invest in and create sites that are able to handle changing weather while lowering energy costs. “Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do,” said Matt Girgis, Volvo Car Canada Ltd.

Just as you thought it was safe to proceed with your energy-efficient façade designs, governments are about to take their entire building regulatory apparatus through another wrenching 90-degree turn. Current tiered codes plan to reduce the centre-of-glass U-value of residential glazing to 0.80 by 2030. That is pretty much impossible to achieve without triple-paned insulating glass, yet glass is among the highest embodied-carbon building products by weight.
