Additional $117 million for ecoEnergy efficiency initiatives

January 29, 2012 - Joe Oliver, minister of Natural Resources, today announced additional funding of $117 million over three years for ecoEnergy efficiency initiatives. This new investment is in addition to an initial $78-million investment announced by Oliver last September, bringing the five-year total for the initiatives to $195 million.

“This investment demonstrates our continuing commitment to advance clean energy technologies and make Canada a world leader in energy efficiency,” said Oliver. “Improving energy efficiency saves energy, creates jobs and increases energy security.”

Oliver also announced that the ecoEnergy Retrofit-Homes program has reached its goal of 250,000 registered homeowners. As such, the program is no longer accepting new registrations.

To help ensure registered homeowners have time to get their post-retrofit evaluations and receive a grant, the Government of Canada is extending the deadline to June 30, 2012, for homeowners to complete post-retrofit evaluations and apply for a grant. All retrofit renovations must still be completed by March 31, 2012.
