Canadian Board for Harmonized Construction Codes seeks Advisory Council chair

January 3, 2023 – The Canadian Board for Harmonized Construction Codes (CBHCC) is seeking expressions of interest from individuals to serve as chair for the inaugural Advisory Council for Harmonized Construction Codes.

The Advisory Council’s mandate will be to provide advice to the CBHCC on key policy issues related to the National Model Codes, and will begin meeting in Q1 2023.

Canada’s National Model Codes include:

• National Building Code of Canada
• National Fire Code of Canada
• National Plumbing Code of Canada
• National Energy Code of Canada for Buildings

The Advisory Council chair will be responsible for:

• Leading Advisory Council discussions
• Setting meetings and agendas
• Attend CBHCC meetings to share the Advisory Council’s advice (as a non-voting, ex-officio member of the CBHCC)

The chair and the Advisory Council will be supported by Codes Canada, an administrative unit within the National Research Council of Canada providing secretarial support to the harmonized code development system. The council is expected to meet about twice a year, or more frequently as required.

Interested? Submit your expression of interest by sending a letter of application, along with a CV, to the CBHCC Secretary at CBHCCSecretary-SecretaireCCHCC@nrc-cnrc.gc.ca by January 9, 2023.

Candidates should include: a summary of experience and background as it relates to construction codes, and/or building design, construction, use or operation; information on experience chairing group deliberations; employment and affiliation; and contact information.

N.B. Candidates who are employed by, or have a leadership role with, organizations that are members of the Advisory Council will not be considered eligible for the role of chair.
