FCM’s redesigned GMF is “better positioned to accelerate municipal transformation”

February 14, 2024  By  Anthony Capkun

February 14, 2024 – The Federation of Canadian Municipalities says it has redesigned the Green Municipal Fund’s “long-standing core funding offer to support Canadian municipalities in delivering high-impact sustainability projects”.

“Our revamped GMF offer features new funding categories designed to drive down GHGs, address environmental, economic and social challenges, and weave together innovative solutions across sectors,” says the organization.

Already underway, GMF is accepting funding applications for:

Sustainable municipal buildings: Reduce GHG emissions and save on energy costs with net-zero new-builds and deep energy retrofits.

Community energy systems: Meet community energy needs, increase energy efficiency, and upgrade infrastructure.

Organic waste-to-energy: Recover value and energy from organic materials and landfill gas.

Municipal fleet electrification: Reduce fuel costs and achieve GHG reductions.

Net-zero transformation: Develop and demonstrate innovative solutions to support the municipal transition to net-zero.

This offer, says FCM, is better positioned to accelerate municipal transformation to net-zero and meet Canada’s 2030 and 2050 targets.

The Green Municipal Fund is a $1.65-billion program, delivered by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and funded by the Government of Canada.
