Bruce II Sports Centre to enjoy an approx. $3-million upgrade

September 8, 2023 – The Bruce II Sports Centre in Channel-Port aux Basques, N.L., is receiving more than $2.9 million to both improve its energy efficiency and add electricity generation.

Work will focus on replacing the building’s roof and windows, upgrading the lighting and heating systems, and installing a solar array.

The Government of Canada is spending $2,326,560 on this project through the Green and Inclusive Community Buildings (GICB) program, while the Town of Channel-Port aux Basques is contributing $581,640.

The GICB program is providing $1.5 billion over five years toward “green and accessible” retrofits, repairs or upgrades.

According to Infrastructure Canada, these improvements are expected to reduce the facility’s energy consumption by an estimated 19.7%, and lower GHG emissions by 8.2 tonnes annually.
