Nest partners with CND Hydro for Rush Hour Rewards program

July 23, 2014 - Cambridge & North Dumfries Hydro Inc. (CND) has partnered with Nest, and customers now qualify to receive a $200 rebate off the purchase of a Nest Learning Thermostat when they enroll in CND’s Rush Hour Rewards program.

The Nest thermostat remembers the temperatures you like, creates a custom schedule for your home, and turns itself down when you’re away. And when you want remote control, just use your smartphone, tablet or computer. The Nest thermostat can be purchased at local retailers or online at www.nest.com for $249.

With Rush Hour Rewards, Nest will be able to automatically make minor temperature adjustments on the hottest summer days when demand for electricity is highest. Participants will always receive day-ahead notification of a rush hour event and the thermostat will automatically pre-cool the home to ensure the impact to comfort is minimal, says CND. Participants remain in control at all times, insists the utility, and can opt out of an event by changing the thermostat settings at any time.

“We continue to provide our customers with innovative solutions for managing their home energy usage. Our partnership with Nest is a shining example of this,” said CND president & CEO Ian Miles. “The Rush Hour Rewards program will take that a step further by reducing the strain on our local power grid during peak usage days.”

This program is a limited-time offer being funded by the Ontario Power Authority (OPA). Only customers of CND who have a central air-conditioner and Wi-Fi can participate in Rush Hour Rewards Program and qualify for the $200 rebate. Most Nest customers install the thermostat themselves; however Nest Certified Installers are available locally to provide installation support.
