A chartered accountant, MacDonald joined EfficiencyOne in 2011 as the chief operating officer of what was then called Efficiency Nova Scotia Corp. Since then, the organization said it has met both energy savings and financial targets.

Before EfficiencyOne, MacDonald worked at the Nova Scotia Gaming Corp and Grant Thornton.

“The board has complete confidence that Steve is the right person to lead EfficiencyOne,” said Bill Lahey, chair of the board of directors. “Steve’s experience and leadership with our organization—and his vast experience outside of it—have been marked by outstanding performance and achievement.”

MacDonald begins his new role on July 1, 2015.

Lahey added the board wishes Crandlemire well, as he “led the evolution of energy efficiency in Nova Scotia, overseeing its movement from within government to a non-profit, independent administrator to Canada’s first energy efficiency utility. That’s a legacy.”
