Through Natural Resources Canada’s Office of Energy Efficiency, the Canadian Industry Partnership for Energy Conservation (CIPEC) is presenting information on the benefits of energy benchmarking on March 27, 2024 (English, via Teams).
AGENDA (Eastern time)
1:00 to 1:05 pm – Introduction, Steven Baker-Findlay, industry officer, NRCan
1:05 to 1:50 pm – Benchmark energy factor standards: Markus Zeller, P.Eng. (BC Hydro), Loren Gudbjartsson, P.Eng. (BC Hydro), Laura Contasti, P.Eng. (CSA Group)
1:50 to 2:00 pm – Q&A
Comparing specific energy consumption is limited in its ability to indicate whether your system is accomplishing the required work most efficiently, says CIPEC. Typical energy models of system energy usage have also proved problematic and seldom effective in predicting system energy performance.
The Benchmark Energy Factor (BEF) concept is based on ideal-state energy benchmarking, and has been adopted by CSA Group where committees are developing a series of these energy performance standards that are repeatable, reproducible, and representative for assessing various industrial systems and facilities.
