ENMAX ups the ante with Energizing Spaces Fund
December 12, 2014 - ENMAX says that, for over 15 years, it has supported Calgary communities by rebating a portion of outdoor ice rink lighting costs through the Rinklighter program, but it is now upping the ante.

According to ENMAX, the Rinklighter program only held seasonal benefits to participating communities, so it its support is transitioning to a year-round concept that will meet a “critical need” in the daily operations of Calgary’s community associations. “The Energizing Spaces Fund responds to what community associations have identified as a gap,” said Karla Wingate, manager, community sponsorship and investment.
“The funding will help replace old kitchen appliances with new and more energy-efficient models that use less electricity,” explained Wingate. “For some communities, it can also mean expanding their kitchen capacity and increasing revenues through the ability to hold larger events, or the creation of catering opportunities.”
“In many cases, community centres do not have the financial ability to make these upgrades on their own,” said Leslie Evans, executive director, Federation of Calgary Communities (FCC). “The Energizing Spaces Fund will provide $75,000 annually towards this goal—a three-fold increase over the previous program.”
Funding will be allocated annually every January, April and October. FCC will administer the program and additional dollars will be provided to them by ENMAX to cover these costs. Communities interested in APPLYING FOR FUNDING can do so through FCC.
