Yukon’s Mount McIntyre rec centre being overhauled for energy efficiency

August 25, 2023  By  Anthony Capkun

August 25, 2023 – In Yukon, the Mount McIntyre Recreation Centre is slated to become more energy-efficient and have its ventilation system upgraded.

“The Mount McIntyre Recreation Centre’s upgrades will not only support quality recreation facilities, but its green technology upgrades will reduce energy use and help us lower carbon emissions,” said Dr. Brendan Hanley, MP for Yukon.

The Government of Canada is providing $7,514,250 while the Government of Yukon is spending $1,804,750 toward the work. (Ottawa’s portion comes from the Green Infrastructure Stream and the Covid-19 Resilience Infrastructure Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.)

The funding investment will enable the installation of a new, high-efficiency energy system and energy recovery ventilation (ERV) unit, as well as upgrades to the building’s ventilation, air-filtering systems and roof.

New insulation and exterior cladding will also be installed, along with new LED lighting, triple-pane windows, and new doors.

These improvements aim to increase the building’s energy efficiency by up to 91% and reduce GHG emissions.
