Brandon’s Parkview Seniors Housing Co-op secures $3.49M for energy efficiency upgrades
November 6, 2024 By Anthony Capkun

November 6, 2024 – Ottawa is providing $3.49 million to enhance energy efficiency for 28 affordable homes for seniors in Brandon, Man., through the Canada Greener Affordable Housing program.
Located at 1321 13th Street, the three-storey building was originally built in 1956 as a personal care home. It was purchased in 1986 and renovated for use as a seniors housing complex. It is operated by Parkview Seniors Housing Co-Op, a non-profit for persons over 55+.
Delivered by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp., the funding will support insulation upgrades, window and door replacements, and heating and cooling system enhancements.
“[…] We are not only improving the quality of life for seniors in Brandon but also contributing to a greener future,” said Dan Vandal, Minister of Northern Affairs and Minister responsible for PrairiesCan and CanNor.
The Canada Greener Affordable Housing program helps affordable housing providers conduct energy efficiency upgrades that will lead to deeper reductions in energy consumption and GHG emissions.
Deep energy retrofits under the CGAH program must target:
• a 70% reduction in energy consumption relative to pre-retrofit performance
• an 80% reduction in GHG emissions relative to pre-retrofit performance
